MYTHS AND FAIRYTALES
Myth #1

A crack in the windshield, is not dangerous.
Truth
A windshield is 2 pieces of glass Laminated together. This is an air-tight process. It is contructed this way to keep the glass from imploding upon contact with a projectile (like a rock). Once the crack allows air to enter, the glass can fly into the car, and your eyes, with any kind of impact. That is why a cracked windshield is illegal. Most people think it's illegal just to aggravate you.

Myth #2
Auto Glass installations are as good at your home, as they are in a shop
Truth
Only if it's between a certain temperature range, dust free, and the installer has every part with him that he could possibly ever need. Most companies do mobile work, certainly we do, just as a matter of remaining competitive. But we really prefer to work "in shop", where we have all of our parts, and it's climate controlled. Please don't think, when we ask "do you have a garage ?", that this is for the installers comfort. It is done to control the environment and give you an optimal service.

Myth #3
All companies use the same products
Truth

Big myth here. Some cheap companies even use illegal silicone  (especially for leaks). There are costly primers involved, that  some folks just don't feel are "neccesary" (even though the manufacturer of the urethane demands it).
To say all products are the same, is to say "Ripple" and  "Dom Perignion" are both wines...

Myth #4

Lifetime warranties are your "Best Warranty"
Truth
Read the contract. There are so many loop-holes in these contracts, that the warranty, in the end, looks like Swiss Cheese. "Wear and Tear", rock chips, not covered. Rust under the windshield, not covered. We all fix them, if they leak. Some companies just toss in a little glue, and cross their fingers, fearing breaking the glass, if they take it out and re-install it. We are "Pro's" at glass removal, as we pull most of our own windsheilds for the used portion of our business. We would prefer to remove, and re-install. Saves you time.

Myth #5
Road service is quicker and cheaper, especially if the company works out of his truck, with just a cell phone.
Truth
When you wait all day for that "lone eagle" to show up, it certainly isn't any quicker. If it happens to be the wrong temperature for the glue, oh well, he's got to make a living, rain or shine, cold or hot. Will glue stick in the rain or snow??? Think about it !
Additionally, all of the "reliable" companies carry several types of insurance for the consumers protection. This is mandated by the insurance companies and dealers we do work for. Does the  lone guy in the truck have all that ?, not likely.
Lastly, where can you go if the work leaks? Do you have to wait another day or so to get it fixed? Will he still be in business?
IF YOU DON"T SEE AN ADDRESS WITH THE PHONE # OR THE MAN OFFERS TO DO THE WORK AT HIS HOME...RUN.

SEVERAL LEGITIMATE COMPANIES DO "MOBILE INSTALLATIONS".
USE A COMPANY THAT ACTUALLY HAS AN ADDRESS, AND IS AN ESTABLISHED COMPANY.

MYTH # 5
You have to buy a new molding
Truth
Sometimes, you do. But not always. Some companies just find it easier, and quicker to cut out the old molding, then to spend the time, carefully removing it, and replacing it. Then they make a bunch of money insisting you need a new one. There are also great quality after-market moldings available, for many models, at 20% of the factory price. There are, in truth some moldings which must be purchased from the factory. This is why it's important to
know your Glass Shop.
